1824, Half Pay Officers from Napoleonic Wars Bantry District.
The initial HP is half pay. Lieutenant Daniel O’Donovan may have been the last survivor of the Irish Brigades. After the French Revolution they were give the option of transferring en masse to the British Army retaining their rank.
Post Napoleonic War Officers on Half Pay Bantry, West Cork 1824 and Lieutenant Daniel O’Donovan, Keelevenougue, last of the Irish Brigade d 1830s.
On the Catholic Gentry and Middle Class in 1828 some months before he was elected to the British parliament Danae O’Connell giving evidence to a Select Committee sasdi that most of the cash on deposit adn most of the share in the Bank of Ireland was held by Catholics. He was complaining that of the management staff only four trainees were Catholic.

Rossmore (310 acres) (Irish: Ros Mor, meaning ‘large copse or large promontory’). Location of Rossmore Castle in ruins former McCarthy sometimes ascribed to O’Mahony tower house and location of former slate quarry. In the field west of Attridges off the road there is believed to be a famine graveyard as told to Nancy Dukelow by her father Tom. This may be in fact the graveyard marked ‘cillín’ on the ordnance survey map to the east of Attridges in Jimmy Hegarty’s yard which David Shannon of Rossmore says may also have been the site of an old church or a pre workhouse refuge for destitute people.
This Castle is often cited as an O’Mahony one, the stone work and the mortar binding of sea pebbles and horse blood is more consistent with other McCarthy Castles in the area.

Landed Estates Court Sale of Estate (567 acres) of Thomas Hungerford at Inchafune (Keelnareliga, Gutteeetown,The Commons, Monanearig Bog), East Carbery, 3 Miles East Dunmanway, West Cork, Maps, Among Names, Bryan, Butler, Carroll, Crowley, Cullinan, Donegan, Driscoll, Dullet, Gillman, Holmes, Jagoe, O’Callaghan, McCarthy, Dr. Morrison, Murphy, Santry, Swanton. Possible connection between Judge Robert Swanton, New York and Cork Dunscomb family.

1601. Reputed Ambush and Massacre of O’Sullivan Bere Troops at Bishopsland Bridge, Caheragh, West Cork, by O’Mahonys, returning from The Battle of Kinsale. This is in local tradition. After the battle local people tended to the survivors some married in locally adn are the origin of some of the Caheragh O’Sullivans.
