This is from the workbook of William Smith O’Brien and is a pasting from ‘The Nation’ c 1850.
O’Keeffe came from a prosperous farming background, his son Arthur died at Rochelle in France. After he became a priest and was Parish Priest of Doneraile in 1723.
The poem is a lament of lost times
