The relationship between Laurence Sulivan (1713-86) and Benjamin Sullivan (1720-67) is certainly unclear; indeed Laurence’s earlier history is vague, as indicated in his entry in the History of Parliament (http://www.historyofparliamentonline.org/volume/1754-1790/member/sulivan-laurence-1713-86). However there is no doubt that they were kin and the careers in India of (Benjamin’s wife) Bridget Limrick’s nephews, Rev. Paul Limrick and Colonel William Somerville Limrick were probably helped by this kinship.
