The American Clock as a wedding present and late 19th century and clock by R.H.Evans, Ballydehob, West Cork.

When couples got married in West Cork it was common for an American relations to send a clock as a wedding present. Some of the older houses still have such clocks. Given widespread emigration since the early 19th century there were plenty of such relations.

The one marked with Evans may have been made by them or made by a manufacturer and with the Evans name inserted. Evans appear in directories from the mid 19th century as merchants in Ballydehob.
