West Cork History

When the Old Age Pension was introduced it was sometimes necessary for the authorities to enquire to the Public Records Office. This was done by looking at the census of 1841 or 1851 to determine if the applicants date of birth was correct. The original census were destroyed in 1922 and this is evidence in some cases of birth and census entry. It can be consulted in the national Archives in Dublin.
