Deed of 1724, Francis Bernard Bandon, Nanno Nagle, Edmund Burke Puxleys Copper Mines Allihies

Sometimes buried in old deeds are clues to personal and family realtionships.

In this The Lavellins were originally old Catholic who converted and ancestors of Puxleys Coper Mine Owners Allihies, and related by marriage to timothy o’Donovan, Landlord, c 1780-1870, Durrus , Co. Cork.

Joseph Nagle, lawyer, Landowner, Businessmen had extensive lands at Mahon, Blackrock, the most hated Papist by Cork Protestants probably uncle of Edmund Burke and Nano Nagle. Lands held in trust o his behalf by friendly Protestants.

Francis Bernard from a reasonably affluent background in Bandon one of the main Lawyers in late 17th and early 18th century, Judge, Solicitor general, Dublin founder of Bandon Estate which at its height amounted to about 40,000 acres assembled by purchase not by conquest.

Interestingly all connected by commerce.

The Lord Bandon family looking at old newspaper reports 19th century trying to effect agricultural improvements. Also a voice for moderation.

It may be that all freeholders had to register as the franchise was very restricted.
