Cearbhall Ó Dalaigh’s grandfather Richard Daly d. 1883. was born in Rosnacaheragh, mid way on the Muintervara peninsula in 1832. At a young age according to family tradition he joined the British Army in Cork and served in India and Burma and was discharged in 1857.

His son Richard O’Daly d. 1920 was the father of the President.
