Pedrigee of Crowleys/O’Crowleys (Ó Crualaoich:Hard Hero/Warrior) West Cork, from Carew manuscript.

Dr. Edward McLysaght, the genealogist, has the Crowleys as a Sept of The McDermotts of Moylurg, Roscommon and migrating to West Cork c 12th Century. Presumably they were Mercenaries.  DNA matches of the Crowley support this with families from that area turning up.

In the 1641 Depositions the claims of Planters for damage due to the Uprising there are frequent references to members of the extended family.

Prize Medal, Richard Hartland, Grenadier Company, Royal Cork Volunteers, Cork, 1810.

This is in the name of Richard Hartland. He may have been one of the seedsman family who at the time were supplying Bantry House as part of their planting programme. The family had nurseries near the Lough and local roads still bear their name.

Probably from Richard Day, Journal of Cork Historical and Archaeological Society.

Sir Edward Sullivan, Bart., LLD, PC, (1822-1885), from Mallow, Co. Cork to Solicitor General, Attorney General, Master of the Rolls, Lord Chancellor of Ireland, one son Jesuit, other Publisher Book of Kells.

An example of Victorian upward mobility.  His grandfather was a gardner on the Mallow Jepson Estate.
