NAI IHP/1/774 is an original 1766 religious census return, one of 57 original 1766 returns to survive. It is neither signed nor dated.
The census provided a list of the names of householders in the parish. For Protestant householders the number of Protestants and ‘Papist servants’ was provided; for Catholic householders ‘the number of persons in each family’ was given.

Thank you Pat! I love this posting! As my Cork ancestors were Protestant, this is so nice to view for its rarity! And to know that there are other surviving census for this year makes me hopeful. I don’t know that I will find a Duclos/Dukelow head of household by this time, but I’ll see if I can take a look. As one of them, earlier than this, was a signee/witness for John Nash on a document, I still have hope of a “find”. As for my ancestors that came between 1828-1832 to Canada, I am thinking they left from Goleen. Busy with Christmas (and just came from snow blowing my driveway), but I’ll have this on my mind to get back to early in January. Wishing you the best of health, and may your Christmas be very merry.
