1806, Early Woman Doctor. County of Cork Infirmary Mallow Early Woman Doctor Noted Dr.Mary Murphy, Assistant Doctor.
She appears to be a Doctor rather than assistant to the Doctor. It is possible that she was a type of matron as the date of her appointment is given. There are in the listing for Cork Apothecaries a number of women widows or daughters of Apothecaries from an early date.

I believe the Do. is “ditto”. That would -sadly but more likely- make Mary Murphy an assistant housekeeper rather than doctor.
You can see the same use of “Do.” as “ditto” on the accounts page. The word ditto IS spelt out but the abbreviation also used .
I was hoping for a lady doctor!!
