August 1862, Rosscarbery Petty Sessions, West Cork, Magistrates joined by Rev. Mr. Baldwin and RIC Sub-Inspector Feely on The Bench.
In the modern common law world it is incomprehensible that a senior police officer could be seen on the bench. Clearly in Cork in the 19th century the concept of the impartiality of the law was a concept somewhat unknown. This is not a unique report.
