Ada Longfield, MA, LLB, On 18th Century Cork Wallpaper, Discover of Crucificition Motiff Gravestones in Glendalough 1940s, wife of Harold Leask, Inspector of Ancient Monuments.

She was an expert on old Irish Wallpaper and did her thesis on this subject in Trinity College.

her husband was involved in a restoration of Glendalough in the late 1940s. The graveyard was then covered in furze bushes and she discovered a series of later 17th century gravestones with a cavalry motif. Many hundreds of these have now been discovered in the Wicklow, North Wexford and Carlow area many by member of the same families of sculptors who unusually always sign their name. Given the choice of stone they are in a remarkable state of preservation.
