Arising from the Louisiana Purchase there were opportunities for European emigrants to settle in Wyoming. John Mahony b 1853 of Kileen, Kicrohane went to the US in 1870 and after various adventures established himself as a major rancher in Wyoming. He sent a general invitation to his people in Kilroohane to ‘come out’ and many followed. They became known as the ‘Proud Men’
